Pastor David Stiles: Don’t confuse lust for love

This month we will spend thousands of dollars in the name of love. You may do what you want with your money. However, we could use some clarity on the definition of love.

Real love is the act of giving with no strings attached. The Biblical definition can be seen played out in the verse John 3:16, “For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”

Love is giving, not taking. Jesus gave his life for us. This shows that God loves us. Yes, Jesus loves us. This month, examine whether you have love or lust. We are confronted by the Hollywood practice and propaganda to promote their business. They historically confuse lust with love. This is not new. Nor is it an accident. They traffic in lust. They can’t afford to be honest. The content of their sensual music supports the sexual content of their movies, TV programming and advertisements.

No one seems to care or complain of the disastrous damage to our culture and families. Their godless, worldly philosophy is constantly used to undermine Biblical concepts of the home and family.

The Bible says, “For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth forever.”(1 John 2:16-17)

Wake up America! God is not willing that any should perish. Repent and confess your sin. Forsake the wicked behavior renamed love by the devil and his crowd. Put your faith in Christ. Stop pretending the evil sexual behavior normalized by our culture is right. God doesn’t approve of sex outside of marriage.

He says, “Marriage is honourable in all, and the bed undefiled: but whoremongers and adulterers God will judge.” (Heb.113:4)

Let us promote the healthy love in the Bible. God’s plan will work if you work his plan.

The Bible says, “Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.” (James 4:7,8)

Let us face the sensuality and sentimentality pushed on us by Hollywood. Don’t let them redefine true love. There needs to be some house cleaning today. Clean up your mind and your behavior. We must have God’s help in this matter. We are all sinners. We must set aside our rebellion and rejection of God’s plan. God knows what is best for us.

He gave us the direction book, the Bible. Listen to him.

Paul said, “Flee also youthful lusts: but follow righteousness, faith, charity, peace, with them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart.” (2 Tim 2:22)

Respond to the love of God. Christ came from eternity past to save sinners.

“The Son of man came to seek and to save that which was lost.” (Lu. 19:10)

Jesus was beaten. He was crucified. He shed his blood on the cross to pay our sin debt. The soldiers pounded spikes into his hands and feet, showing him no mercy. What a bloody mess! He suffered that pain, taking our place that day. This is the metaphor that says, “I love you.” On the third day after his death, he rose from the grave. We have a living Saviour, not a dead religious leader.

Will you believe on the Lord Jesus Christ? Call on his name to save your soul from your sin today. Don’t wait. Don’t hesitate. He is waiting for your call. Jesus truly loves us.
