BIG RAPIDS — The Salvation Army of Big Rapids 2018 Volunteer Appreciation Dinner took place on Feb. 1.

The event featured presentations from the Salvation Army’s Youth Music Program, Timbrel Group and Youth Choir. Attendees were served breakfast for dinner by members of the Salvation Army’s Community Advisory Board. During the event, organizers informed guests about the impact their service has made in the community.

Awards were given to the Big Rapids Rotary, Lake-Osceola State Bank, Isabella Bank and the Ferris State Humanities Department for their dedication to service through the Salvation Army. Organizers also recognized several outstanding volunteers: Susan Acker, Angel Tree Volunteer of the Year; Tammy Tombs, Youth Program Volunteer of the Year; Charles Halladay, Corps Program Volunteer of the Year; Klay Hobson, Family Store Volunteer of the Year; Sam Smith, Red Kettle Volunteer of the Year; and T. Patrick Billig, Music Program Volunteer of the Year.

Music program instructors also were provided with a special recognition for their efforts. Salvation Army Envoys Ed and Theresa Hoskins, along with Advisory Board Chairman Jonathan Eppley, presented the Red Shield Award for Volunteerism to Brian and Elizabeth Carr.
