Dolores Grace Horan: Mural a great addition to downtown

A special thank you:

“Awesome,” “Outstanding,” “Beautiful,” were just a few of the comments heard Monday in the audience-packed art gallery of Artworks as artist John Kuna was introduced by Big Rapids City Manager Mark Gifford. John painted the historical mural on the north wall of the Fairman Building in downtown Big Rapids.

John Kuna, a humble young man, born in Czechoslovakia, explained the entire process of painting the mural from the time he came to Big Rapids to view the building, met with many residents and committee members, examined various photographs, and complied a vision of the entire project. The painting venture was over a three-year time frame!

In this tumultuous world we live in today, a most heartfelt thank-you to cooperative efforts of the Festival of the Arts, Big Rapids Housing Commission, City of Big Rapids, and artist John Kuna for developing this creation honoring the early lumbering history of Big Rapids, for bringing a ray of sunshine to our lives, a feeling of beauty, joy and contentment to the people of this area! It truly is an outstanding work of art!

Congratulations on a job well done, we thank each and every one of you!

In appreciation,

Dolores Grace Horan
