Leadership Mecosta fundraising kickoff mixer set for today

BIG RAPIDS — The 2017-18 Leadership Mecosta Class will kick off its fundraising efforts for this year’s community service project today.

Members of the class are hosting a kickoff mixer, set for 5 to 7 p.m. today at The Raven Brewing and BBQ, 121 N. Michigan Ave., Big Rapids, to help with the Leadership Mecosta Endowed Scholarship.

The event will include light refreshments and an opportunity to speak with members of this year’s Leadership Mecosta class to learn about the endowed scholarship, which will be awarded annually to a first-time, full-time undergraduate Ferris State University student from the Mecosta County area, including Osceola, Newaygo, Montcalm and Lake counties, who has an unmet financial need.

Class members decided the scholarship will create a legacy that will further exemplify the program’s reputation for leadership development in the area by investing in future leaders. In partnering with Ferris as part of their Now and Always campaign, every dollar raised for this scholarship will be matched by the Ferris Foundation. The class chose the project because of the impact it will have on the next generation of leaders in the area.

For more information about the endowed scholarship, contact committee chair Bob Murray at (231) 349-5339, committee secretary Megan Eppley at (231) 796-7649, committee treasurer Chris Crawley at (231) 368-6810 or other Leadership Mecosta class members.
