POLICE BLOTTER: Police receive report of illegal use of dumpsters on Williams Street

BIG RAPIDS — Big Rapids Department of Public Safety officers responded to the following calls Monday and Tuesday. All calls might not be reported.


• Police received a walk-in fraud complaint at 12:55 p.m. at DPS. The complainant had purchased an iPhone privately and was unable to activate it due to the phone being locked. The incident is under investigation.

• Officers received an illegal dumping complaint at 1:47 p.m. on the 100 block of Williams Street. The complaintant reported someone illegally used their dumpsters over the weekend. The complainant wanted the suspect spoken to but no charges.

• A caller reported their silver Pontiac G6 parked on the 100 block of North Third Avenue had been hit while they were away on spring break between March 1 and March 12.

• A credit card was found on the 700 block of South State Street. The card was returned to the owner, who was unaware she had forgotten it.

• A 40-year-old man was arrested for operating while intoxicated at 5:47 p.m. near Maple Street and Warren Avenue.

• A woman reported her mail had been opened at 6:29 p.m. on the 1300 block of Catherine Street. Further inspection revealed the envelope had likely not been sealed properly and had naturally come open. Nothing was missing from the envelope.


• Officers followed up with residents of an apartment at 12:06 a.m. on the 700 block of Clark Street. Police explained the padlock ordinance.

• Police conducted a vehicle search at 12:25 a.m. on Mill Street near State Street.

• A credit card was found at 1:43 a.m. on the 700 block of South State Street. The owner made arrangements to pick up the card.

• Officers found an open door at 3:08 a.m. on the 100 block of South Michigan Avenue. Police secured the door.

• Police received a civil complaint at 3:30 a.m. on the 1100 block of Second Avenue. One tenant was being evicted by the other roommates.
