Ribbon cutting ceremony celebrates new statue

While most people and their four-legged friends come and enjoy Brutus Dog Park, then leave after playtime is over, a few new members have set up permanent residence. A Robert Barnum sculpture, “Betty’s Best Friends,” was unveiled at the park on Tuesday during a ribbon cutting ceremony. The statue, depicting two people, a couple of dogs and a cat, is dedicated to the Animal Rescue Coalition (ARC) of Mecosta County. The piece was commissioned by Betty Frye. During the ceremony, Frye, surrounded by community members, cut the ribbon. (Pioneer photo/Meghan Gunther-Haas)
