Five Big Rapids soccer players earn all-state honors

BIG RAPIDS — The Michigan High School Soccer Coaches Association has announced its 2018 girls soccer all-state teams, and five Cardinals were named to a team.

Senior Kaitlyn Ray was named to the Division 3 all-state second team and junior Selena Wright to the third team. Seniors Leah Morningstar and Halle Stork, as well as junior Josie Sanders were named honorable mention.

Ray, a four-year varsity player, tallied 21 goals and 12 assists this season and finished her Cardinal career with three all-conference, all-district, and all-region selections.

Wright has been named all-conference, all-district, and all-region the past two years and finished with a team-high 27 goals and added 10 assists.

Morningstar has been named to two all-conference teams during her four-year soccer career. She tallied eight goals and six assists this year. Stork, a Purdue Northwest signee, allowed only 14 goals this season on her way to a 21-2 record as a starter.

Sanders was one of the team’s top defenders. She also found some time to produce on offense to the tune of  six goals and eight assists.

Big Rapids finished the season with a 23-4 record, a conference championship, and made its first-ever appearance in the regional final.

The Cardinals graduate six seniors in Joanne Lechille, Brettanya Zimmer, Brianna Pedigo, Ray, Morningstar, and Stork.
