Rod & gun club stays active

MECOSTA — Randy Rice continues to be busy on Saturdays at the Mecosta County Rod & Club.

Rice, the club chairman, noted sporting clays takes place in the afternoon every Saturday, while the morning program includes scrap traps.

Turnouts have been “fairly good, we could use more,” he said.

With May and June weather showing a major improvement from March and April, the turnouts have been more favorable, Rice acknowledged.

“We didn’t have very good turnouts during the spring,” he said.

The club hopes for huge turnouts on Saturday afternoons during the upcoming anticipated warm weekends. Shoots continue every Saturday until the fall hunting season.

The club also had a spring hunter’s safety program in May and will have another class in July, Rice said.
