CADILLAC — The 50th annual Cadillac Festival of the Arts — Phyllis Olson Art Fair, will begin Friday, July 20, in Cadillac Commons City Park, Cadillac, adjacent to Lake Cadillac.

The Festival includes fine art, live music, food and the “Sherilyn Lindberg Kid’s Art.” This two-day event hosts 100 juried artists who exhibit art of original concept, design and execution.

Special activities will commemorate the 50th anniversary. On Thursday evening, participating artists can enjoy a hors d’oeuvre reception, hosted by Brink’s Art and Frame Shop and the Art Festival Committee. Friday, the festivities begin earlier at 11 a.m. Be the first to shop artist booths and enjoy food from the vendors along Lake Street. Artists will be judged on Friday this year so winners can be announced during the opening ceremony that evening.

The Saline Fiddlers will perform during this year’s Cadillac Festival of the Arts, set for July 20 and 21. The Saline Fiddlers will take the stage at 7:30 p.m. om Saturday. (Courtesy photos)

Saturday, young artists can be entered into the Cadillac Festival of the Arts’ first sidewalk chalk-painting contest, centered around the music pavilion. The Garden Club also will have a flower show on the grounds around City Park down to the new Up North Arts Center.

Festival T-shirts also are back, and were designed by local artist Cyndy Foley. Festival posters were designed by poster winner Cassie Anderson. Posters and T-shirts can be picked up at the new artisan market area, along with specialty foods and products.

The music line-up will begin at 6 p.m. on Friday, with the Cadillac Symphony Orchestra. At 7:30, the Saline Fiddlers, America’s premier youth fiddling show band from Saline, will take the stage. The musicians will present an energetic show that features a diverse range of music from American folk, fiddle, bluegrass, jazz, western swing and Celtic traditions. Spirited vocals and Appalachian step dancing combine with the instrumentals to create this live performance.

Saturday, artist booths open at 10 a.m. The beat goes on with music and dance all day, including from Chris Buhalis, Northern Lights Irish Dancers, Wendy & DB and The Landing Dance Academy. Special guest Seth Bernard will close the 50th celebration with a performance from 5:30 to 7 p.m.
