Artists sought for water-themed exhibit

BIG RAPIDS — Area artists have an opportunity to have their creations become part of the Smithsonian Museum on Mainstreet Water/Ways Exhibit coming to Artworks this fall.

Artworks is issuing a call for artists to create 2- or 3-D art within particular thematic or material categories. Artists creating 2-D art can select a theme from a list of water-related choices; those making a 3-D piece are asked to represent the state reptile, the painted turtle, using materials from a separate list.

Two-dimensional art must have a hanging wire attached and all pieces must fit through 34-inch-by-82-inch doors. The deadline to commit to the show, which will be on exhibit from Sept. 29 to Nov. 10, is July 20.

For more details, including the call for artists and exhibit agreement, visit artworksinbigrapids.org, click “Painted Turtle Gift Shop/Gallery” and select “Artist/Exhibit Policies & Forms” from the drop-down menu.
