Reed City second baseman set to have strong summer

Macy Brown

REED CITY – Mady Brown is among the returning Reed City softball players working on her game as she prepares for the 2019 season.

The Coyotes are playing home games every Wednesday for the rest of this month as a summer team called the Reed City Rage. Brown will be a junior next season.

She played varsity for her second season and said the 2018 campaign was her best. She was at second base and is playing that position again this summer.

“I like that you get a good view of the play and where the ball is coming from,” Brown said. “I think I have good range.”

Brown wished she hit the ball better last season. It’s a main focus for her this summer. She’s looking for a higher batting average next season

“You have to keep your head on the ball,” Brown said.

The Coyotes graduated several seniors from a team that won 24 games and took its second straight district title. Brown indicated she’s ready to step into a leadership role and help Reed City keep its championship streak going.

Brown also plays volleyball and is getting ready for the summer program in that sport, coached by Don Patterson. Volleyball practices officially start on Aug. 8.
