Nelson, 23, of Newaygo, was arrested in Chicago early Friday afternoon by FBI agents. Local officials did not know how much of the stolen money had been recovered, but noted the arrest took place less than 24 hours after the robbery was reported.

The bank branch located on Perry Avenue and Waldron Way, was robbed early Thursday afternoon by a lone man police later identified as Nelson. According to Detective Sgt. Drew Nielsen, Nelson demanded money from the bank staff. He then fled the bank with an undisclosed amount of money in a dark blue, four-door vehicle, possibly a Volkswagen.

The Mecosta County Sheriff Office was assisted in the investigation by the Big Rapids Department of Public Safety, Ferris State University Department of Public Safety, the Michigan State Police and the FBI.
