Local artists answer questions during Artworks reception

Community members spent Thursday evening admiring the pictures adorning the walls of Artworks’ Painted Turtle Gallery and asking the artists questions about their influences, styles and processes in creating their masterpieces during the “Fantasy and Flowers” exhibit reception. The exhibit shows a collection of work from locals Mike Mumah, a freelance illustrator who works with the role-playing and video game industries, and Sonya Grenell, a tattoo artist who co-owns Lighttouch Tattoo in Big Rapids with her husband. Grenell answers questions about her pieces, which hang behind her, during one portion of the reception on Thursday. The Fantasy and Flowers exhibit will continue to hang in Artworks through Sept. 22, along with the “…and I am an Artist” exhibit, which features inmates’ artwork, in the Chemical Bank Gallery.
