Mecosta County 49th Circuit Court reports

BIG RAPIDS — The following cases were heard this week in Mecosta County’s 49th Circuit Court. All cases may not be reported.

• Jermain Paris Whitaker Jr., 20, of Detroit, pleaded guilty to assaulting a public officer. His sentence was delayed one year. As part of a plea agreement, a charge of assaulting/resisting/obstructing a police officer was dismissed. As part of his sentence, Whitaker must complete 40 hours of community service and pay fines and court fees.

• Brett James Haack, 23, of Morley, pleaded guilty to carrying a concealed weapon and unlawful use of a license plate. Haack received a one-year delay on his sentence for the weapons charge. He was sentenced to one year of probation for the license plate charge. As part of a plea agreement, a charge of failing to maintain security was dismissed. He also must pay fines and court fees.

• Ellen Lorene Johnson, 52, of Chippewa Lake, pleaded no contest to assault with a dangerous weapon (felonious assault). Her sentence was delayed for one year. As part of a plea agreement, a second charge of assault with a dangerous weapon (felonious assault) and a charge of malicious destruction of personal property (less than $200) were dismissed by the Mecosta County Prosecutor’s Office. Johnson also must pay fines and court fees.
