Ex-Ferris players invited to partake in alumni day

Ferris football plays at Fifth Third Park this season.

BIG RAPIDS — Ferris State University will hold its second annual “Football Alumni Day” this fall on Oct. 6 in conjunction with the “Battle At The Ballpark” to be played at Fifth Third Ballpark in Comstock Park.

The Bulldogs, who are the nation’s preseason no. 3 team by Lindy’s Sports, will face Michigan Tech in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference showdown on the home field of Minor League Baseball’s West Michigan Whitecaps. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m.

All former FSU football players are invited to take part in the alumni day event and a special “Gameday Experience Package” is available for only $30. The gameday package will provide Bulldog Football alums with a game ticket and entrance to watch the game with access to a private space above the playing surface on the Miller Lite Deck at Fifth Third Ballpark.

Along with the special alumni-only venue to watch the game, alums will also receive a special lanyard with their name and years they played in addition to being invited to take part in a Fifth Quarter reception following the game at the Miller Lite Deck with appetizers and a cash bar.

The Fifth Quarter reception will begin approximately 15 minutes following the contest and feature Bulldog head coach Tony Annese and other potential staff and coaches.

The Bulldogs also plan to hold a football alumni reception in the Grand Rapids area the night prior to the game on Oct. 6 with more details coming soon.

Former players should signup and purchase the special package online at this link below or stop by the Bulldog Athletic Association tent during FSU’s first two home games this fall (Aug. 30 & Sept. 8) at Top Taggart Field. Registrations must be made by Sept. 14.

“We’re excited about the opportunity to showcase our program to so many supporters in the Grand Rapids area and across West Michigan and would love to have as many alumni of the program as possible join us at Fifth Third Ballpark,” said Annese. “We had an outstanding turnout for our alumni day last fall and look forward to connecting with everyone on Oct. 6.”

The Bulldogs will begin their 110th season of varsity competition this coming fall with their sights set on making a fifth consecutive trip to the NCAA Division II Playoffs. FSU has made back-to-back NCAA Division II National Quarterfinal appearances and is one of only five teams in all of college football to win at least 11 games each of the past four years. The Bulldogs along with Northwest Missouri State are the only programs in Division II football to make the playoffs each of the past four seasons.

In six seasons under Annese, the Bulldogs have become a national power on the Division II level. FSU has posted a 60-14 overall mark in the last six years and the Bulldogs have also posted the best winning percentage of all 21 collegiate programs in the state of Michigan along with the GLIAC since his arrival. Last summer, Hero Sports picked FSU as Michigan’s Best College Football program regardless of division.

Ferris State will return nearly 50 letterwinners for the 2018 campaign and is picked as the nation’s no. 3 team in the Lindy’s Sports Division II Preseason Rankings.
