Evart cross country team ready for a huge season

Austin Hamilton

EVART — Evart cross country coach Kevin Mills will be expecting a lot from his top five boys runners this season.

“We are going to ask a lot from the top five guys of Austin Hamilton, Nathan Woods, Tanner Ryan, Richard Foster and Parker Henry,” Mills said. “If each one is able to break into the 17s, the team will go a long way.”

As for the girls, “Sofia Scott and Rose Clark are two girls that have been with the program the longest, and they will need to be the glue to bring the team together to run as one,” Mills said. “I expect both teams to run as one, placing the same value on each team member, encouraging them to be their best.”

Resiliency will be a team strength and “being a stronger family of runners,” Mills said. The Wildcats hope to make some noise in the Highland Conference.

“Beal City has a great chance of winning conference this year, but the Evart boys are ready to challenge for the title again this year,” Mills said.

The Wildcats are coming off a strong 2017 season.

“The girls took place at the Evart Wildcat Invitational,” Mills recalled. “For the boys, Jacob Quist brought a lot of energy to the team. For the girls, Arianna Mooney and Sarah Nelson were both very dedicated to the team, doing their best at the meets to better themselves and their team.”
