BIG RAPIDS — Tegan Jones had a huge season debut for Big Rapids in Saturday’s Alma Invitational and hopes to carry it on as the year continues.

Jones totaled 14 kills for Big Rapids during the tournament

She’s a senior and is on the varsity her second season.

“It went well last year, it was a fun season,” Jones said. “It didn’t take long (to adjust to varsity).”

Last season, Jones was a right side hitter but now plays middle.

“I think I played pretty well,” Jones said. “Playing in the middle is really quick.”

Jones worked on volleyball during the offseason.

“I played club during the spring,” she said. “I think I’ve improved quite a bit.”

As a hitter, “I’m going to try to be consistent,”Jones said. “I want to improve on my back row play and passing.”

Big Rapids is scheduled to be at Cadillac on Thursday and at McBain on Aug. 29.

“I think we’re going to be pretty good this year,” Jones said. “We just connect well. It’s a good group of girls. I think we’re going to be pretty good offensively. But we’re going to work to be well-rounded.

“We want to be more of a family, be close and trust each other.”
