Big Rapids man charged with December auto larcenies

BIG RAPIDS — A Big Rapids man has been charged in connection to a string of December thefts from vehicles.

According to Big Rapids Department of Public Safety Detective Brian Miller, Jerry Nelson, 26, of Big Rapids, was arraigned Tuesday in Mecosta County’s 77th District Court.

Court records indicate Nelson faces three counts of breaking and entering of a vehicle to steal property less than $200 in value. Each charge is a misdemeanor punishable by up to 93 days in jail or a fine of not more than $500, or three times the value of the property stolen, whichever is greater, or both imprisonment and a fine.

The alleged thefts occurred during the early morning hours of Dec. 22.

Nelson currently is lodged at the Mecosta County Jail on a $1,500 bond.

The items reported stolen were not recovered, according to Miller.

Nelson’s next court appearance is a pre-trial hearing set for 9 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 12.
