Osceola County commissioners to discuss possible veterans services millage

OSCEOLA COUNTY — Osceola County officials are looking into options for providing additional assistance to local veterans.

During the Osceola County Board of Commissioners Committee of the Whole meeting at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 5, commissioners are expected to consider levying a millage to provide financial assistance to indigent veterans in the county or drafting a millage proposal to be placed on an upcoming election ballot.

Dave Blanchard and Wayne Stevens, veterans services officers with the county, have previously stated their desire to reach out and assist more local veterans who are in need of emergency assistance, and have said a millage would help them do so.

Also during the meeting, commissioners will discuss:

• Compensation for Osceola County Circuit Court Assistant Prosecutor Andrew LaPres;

• Holding a flu shot clinic; and

• The fiscal year 2019 Emergency Management Performance Grant work agreement/quarterly report.
