Big Rapids city officials to host depot tour, public meeting

BIG RAPIDS — After several years of discussion regarding the City of Big Rapids purchasing the old railroad depot building located adjacent to the Fredrick Meijer White Pine Trail on Maple Street from the state, city officials are broaching the subject once again.

City commissioners and other officials will be touring the depot at 4:30 p.m. today and plan to discuss whether or not the city should purchase the building.

There also will be a public meeting to continue the discussion on the purchase and future plans for the depot following the tour at 5:30 p.m. at Big Rapids City Hall.

City Manager Mark Gifford said anyone interested in learning more about the possibility of the city purchasing the depot and what may come of it is welcome to attend the afternoon’s tour and meeting to join in the discussion.
