POLICE BLOTTER: Traffic stops lead to multiple citations

BIG RAPIDS — Big Rapids Department of Public Safety officers responded to the following calls Thursday. All calls might not be reported.

• Police performed an area check at 8:25 a.m. for a vehicle driving all over the road. The vehicle was gone when officers arrived.

• At 10:54 a.m., officers responded to a suspicious situation on the 1100 block of Catherine Street.

• Officers performed a well-being check for a woman at 3:12 p.m. on the 100 block of Woodward Avenue. The woman had her kids taken away by the court. She refused to talk to officers.

• At 3:56 p.m., a traffic stop on the 500 block of South State Street resulted in a woman receiving a citation for having improper plates and no insurance.

• A woman reported her phone had been stolen by a man at 4:47 p.m. on the 900 block of Colburn Avenue. Officers believe it may be a civil issue.

• Police performed an area check for a mini-motorcycle on the Riverwalk leaving Hemlock Park. The driver was located at Swede Hill Park. The 21-year-old man was cited for operating an unregistered vehicle.

• An upstairs tenant on the 400 block of Finley Avenue wanted officers to check the well-being of the downstairs tenant’s kids for possible abuse and neglect. Officers checked and all seemed good. While there, the upstairs tenant was stomping on the floor and as officers were leaving, the tenant was screaming out the window at the downstairs tenant. The 66-year-old woman was issued a noise ticket, but refused to answer her door.

• During a field contact in City Lot 4, officers found a person drinking from a Powerade bottle. No alcohol was found.

• A traffic stop in the southern portion of the city resulted in a 31-year-old Big Rapids man being cited for driving with a suspended or revoked license, having an unregistered vehicle and not having insurance.
