Jayden Mason

BIG RAPIDS — Big Rapids senior quarterback Jayden Mason is making the most of his first season as the starting quarterback for the Cardinals.

“It feels great,” Mason said. “I’ve worked for this so I’m glad that I have it now. I’m hoping it goes well for us.”

Through two games this season, Mason has completed 12 of23 passes for 208 yards and two touchdown passes to go along with 33 carries for 269 yards and two touchdowns.

With great power comes great responsiblity, and Mason is doing his best to be a role model for his teammates.

“I enjoy it. I always tell the younger guys if they have questions, to ask. It’s fun helping them out. They look up to us and we try to set a great example for them.”

Mason aims to get the Cardinals to the postseason and doesn’t care about putting up gaudy stats.

“I’m just trying to do the best I can. I’m not really shooting for anything spectacular. We’re trying to make the playoffs.”
