POLICE BLOTTER: Noise warnings issued for parties over the weekend

BIG RAPIDS — Big Rapids Department of Public Safety officers responded to the following calls over the weekend. All calls might not be reported.

Friday

• Police responded to a failure to pay for gas on the 700 block of South State Street.

• Officers responded to State and Bridge streets at 11:54 a.m. for a hit-and-run crash. The suspect vehicle is a yellow Jeep Wrangler. No further information was available.

• A two-car crash took place at 12:24 p.m. at State and Ferris Drive.

• At 2:22 p.m., police took a walk-in probation violation complaint. A woman came to DPS to report her ex-boyfriend contacting her via Facebook, a violation of his probation order. The investigation continues. While the woman was being interviewed by police, a 22-year-old man pulled into the parking lot, reached into her car and took $40. She later claimed she owed the man money.

• Officers were dispatched to an assault complaint at 1:35 p.m. on the 500 block of North Warren Avenue.

• Police assisted Child Protective Services at 2:58 p.m. on the 200 block of North Fourth Avenue.

• At 3:32 p.m., officers responded to a two-car crash at State and Morrison Avenue.

• Officers were dispatched at 4:50 p.m. for a minor attempting to purchase tobacco on the 600 block of North State.

• At 7:48 p.m., police performed a well-being check for a 73-year-old woman on the 200 block of Maple Street. The woman had not answered her phone all day. She was fine. She had not charged her cordless phone.

• Officers assisted the Mecosta County Sheriff’s Office on the east side of the city for a man who fled from a traffic crash.

• At 11:31 a.m, police performed an area check on the 100 block of North Michigan Avenue for people hood surfing on a car. Police were unable to locate the car.

• Police made contact with a party at 11:50 p.m. on the 500 block of South Michigan for a party. The party was voluntarily shut down after speaking with the tenants.

Saturday

• At 12:06 a.m., officers performed an area check for a man calling for help and saying he needed to go to the hospital. An 18-year-old man was taken to the emergency room for treatment.

• Officers made contact with a loud party at 12:10 a.m. on the 400 block of South Warren. After speaking with several people, the tenant shut the party down when he was advised of the noise coming from the party.

• At 12:27 p.m., officers issued a citation for a minor in possession (MIP) of alcohol on the 100 block of South Michigan.

• Police issued a citation to a man at 12:29 a.m. for open intoxicants on the 300 block of South Michigan.

• While on foot on the 100 block of South Michigan, officers observed a man urinating on the side of a building at 2:07 a.m. The man was issued an appearance citation for urinating in public.

• At 5:16 a.m., police performed an area check for a white SUV on South State near the ice arena with the alarm going off and a woman inside. As officers were arriving in the area, the caller advised the vehicle was traveling east on Gilbert Road from State. Police were unable to locate the vehicle.

• Officers assisted another agency at 6:45 a.m.

• Police responded to a suspicious situation at 7:29 a.m. on the 800 block of Country Way.

• Officers performed an area check at 9 a.m. on the 1000 block of South State.

• At 4:43 p.m., police assisted a citizen.

• Officers responded to a malicious destruction of property complaint at 7:33 p.m. on the 500 block of South Warren. The caller found damage to the rear window of his topper. Officers believe the damage likely occurred the night prior.

• At 8:28 p.m., police assisted the Michigan State Police. Several individuals were seen shining flashlights at cars from the Woodward Avenue overpass on U.S. 131. Individuals were taking photos from the bridge using the flash on their phone.

• Officers responded to a noise complaint at 11 p.m. on the 1100 block of Fuller Avenue. A warning was issued to the tenant.

• Police provided a general inquiry at 11:19 p.m. A bar wanted to verify an ID from Ohio. The ID was verified as a redesigned ID compliant with the federal “Real ID” regulation.

• A traffic stop at 11:59 p.m. Linden Street and Stewart Avenue led to a male being cited for violating license restriction.

Sunday

• At 12:31 a.m., officers responded to a breaking-and-entering complaint on the 600 block of Division Street. The residents came home to find three people in their house, who ran out the front door. Two of the three people were described as African-American males who wore hoodies and black sweatpants. The incident occurred approximately five minutes before police were dispatched. Officers were unable to locate the subjects in the area.

• Police responded to a noise complaint at 12:43 a.m. on the 400 block of South Michigan. Loud music could be heard through open windows. The tenant was given a written warning for noise.

• Officers were dispatched at 1:11 a.m. to an MIP complaint on the 100 block of South Michigan. The woman was gone when officers arrived.

• At 1:12 a.m., officers were dispatched to a bonfire in an alley on the 700 block of Division. The ordinances were explained and the fire was put out.

• A traffic stop at 1:43 a.m. on North State near the city limits resulted in a citation for open intoxicants in a motor vehicle.

• At 3:11 a.m., a business reported three people left after trying to break the glass of a vending machine on the 800 block of Water Tower Road. The three had shaken the machine and were asked to leave. Officers were unable to locate the three.

• Police were dispatched to a threats complaint at 3:38 a.m. on the 800 block of North State. A woman reported a man from Grand Rapids knocked on her door and threatened to shoot her over $20 she owed him. The incident happened one hour prior to the call.

• Officers performed a well-being check at 4:14 a.m. on 400 block of South Warren. A man was concerned after his 18-year-old daughter had not come home by 2 a.m. The lights were off and there was no answer at the door. The phone went straight to voicemail.

• At 1:43 p.m., officers found a credit card at North End Riverside Park. The card was returned to its owner.

• Police found an open door at 2:19 p.m. on the 900 block of Hanson Street. While doing property checks, the front door was found open. A search was completed. Officers believe the last person out of the house forgot to lock the door to the freshly remodeled and unoccupied house.

Monday

• At 1:43 a.m., a traffic stop at Rose Avenue and Fremont Street resulted in the arrest of a 28-year-old man for operating while intoxicated with a high blood alcohol content.
