Barryton American Legion post to expand membership

BARRYTON — To better serve veterans and their families in the area, the Gerald Pitts American Legion Post No. 473 in Barryton is expanding its membership.

According to a release, post members will be hosting an open house to welcome area veterans and their families from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 15, at the post, located at 135 E. Northern Ave.

An accredited state service officer will be on hand Saturday to help veterans with any Department of Veterans Affairs benefits questions and claims. As benefits change from time to time, Saturday will be a good time for veterans with an existing claim to have it reviewed. Any war-time veteran, regardless of locations of service or gender, and their families are invited to attend. There is no charge for the service.

Those planning to attend should bring their DD214 (certificate of release or discharge from active duty) or other proof of service.
