Mecosta County’s 49th Circuit Court reports

BIG RAPIDS — The following cases were heard this week in Mecosta County’s 49th Circuit Court. All cases may not be reported.

• John Wesley Tripp, 63, of Big Rapids, pleaded guilty to assaulting/resisting/obstructing an officer. He was sentenced to six months in jail and credited with serving 68 days. As part of a plea agreement with prosecutors, charges of obstruction of justice and domestic violence were dismissed, along with a habitual offender notice. After being released from jail, Tripp is to be placed on a SCRAM tether. A current no-contact order will be left up to the discretion of the probation department.

• Albert Portor Robinson, 55, of Big Rapids, pleaded guilty to assault with a dangerous weapon. He was sentenced to one year in jail and credited with serving 57 days. As part of a plea agreement with prosecutors, a second charge of assault with a dangerous weapon and a domestic violence charge were dismissed. Robinson can be released early from jail for in-patient treatment. If successful with treatment, the remainder of his jail sentence will be suspended. A no-contact order currently in place will be left to the discretion of the probation department. Robinson also must serve three years of probation.

• Andre Royl Howlett Jr., 22, of Battle Creek, pleaded guilty to delivery of marijuana. His sentenced is delayed for one year.
