Muskegon River Trash Bash set for Saturday

BIG RAPIDS — Area residents can be part of a national effort and beautify their community at the same time by participating in the Muskegon River Trash Bash on Saturday, Sept. 15.

Organizers in Mecosta, Osceola and Newaygo counties are trying to set the world record for miles cleaned in one day.

The one-day trash cleanup is part of American Rivers’ National River Cleanup, with groups tackling areas of the river in Big Rapids, Evart and near Mecosta.

Those who wish to participate in the Big Rapids area should meet at 9 a.m. at Hemlock Park; at 9 a.m. at Riverside Park West in Evart; and 9 a.m. at Bromley Park in Mecosta.

Volunteers will receive free gifts while supplies last. Gloves, bags and water will be provided to those participating. All volunteers who complete a river segment will be eligible to win prizes.
