Osceola County commissioners to discuss Brownfield assessment proposal

OSCEOLA COUNTY — County officials are continuing to take steps to redevelop local property.

During the Osceola County Board of Commissioners Committee of the Whole meeting at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 18, commissioners are expected to consider approving a proposal from Soil and Materials Engineers, Inc. to evaluate four key sites within the county as part of the Brownfield Redevelopment Authority.

This authority was created to assist in the expansion, redevelopment or reuse of property which may include the presence or potential presence of a hazardous substance, pollutant or contaminant.

In July, commissioners approved acceptance of an $83,000 grant from the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality to be used as part of this authority.

Also during the meeting, commissioners are expected to discuss:

• Authorizing signing the Fiscal Year 2019 Older American Act Contract Amendment and the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) Business Associate Agreement from the Area Agency on Aging of Western Michigan for the Osceola County Commission on Aging (COA); and

• Approving a bid to fix damage to the COA parking lot and entrance in Evart.
