POLICE BLOTTER: Police investigate domestic assault, gas drive-off

BIG RAPIDS — Big Rapids Department of Public Safety officers responded to the following calls Monday. All calls might not be reported.

• Officers responded to a minor traffic crash at 7:36 a.m. at Maple Street and Third Avenue. A vehicle turning into the alley struck a pedestrian who was a riding a bicycle on the sidewalk. The cyclist sustained minor injuries. The driver was cited for failing to yield.

• Police performed school traffic detail at 7:45 a.m.

• Officers were dispatched at 8:40 a.m. to a traffic crash at State and Cedar streets.

• Police responded to a suspicious incident complaint at 10:54 a.m. for something which occurred Friday night on the 100 block of South Michigan Avenue. An unknown subject sprayed a can of Fart Spray (an actual product) in the dance floor area, causing the bar to clear out. The incident remains under investigation.

• Police assisted a resident with a walk-in complaint at 12:45 p.m.

• Officers investigated a suspicious situation at 12:59 p.m. on the 200 block of Marion Avenue.

• At 1:25 p.m., police performed an area check for a dog in a vehicle in a parking lot on the 600 block of Oak Street. The dog and owner were in the vehicle. Both were fine.

• Police were dispatched to a domestic assault complaint at 1:41 p.m. on the 1100 block of Fuller Avenue. The caller stated she had been assaulted by her boyfriend. He had left for class at the time of the call, but was later interviewed and claimed to have been assaulted by her. The incident will be sent for review.

• At 4:04 p.m., police were dispatched to the 100 block of North Michigan for a person sitting at the bar and acting strangely. Police made contact with the man, who was later taken to the emergency room at Spectrum Health Big Rapids Hospital for a voluntary mental health examination.

• Officers were dispatched to a failure to pay complaint at 5:32 p.m. on the 700 block of South State. The subject prepaid $5 of gas and then pumped $31 worth at a different pump. A possible suspect was identified. Officers continue their investigation.

• An ID, Bridge Card and two rewards cards belonging to a woman were found at 5:54 p.m. on the 500 block of North State. Officers will attempt to contact the woman Tuesday.

• Police responded to a civil complaint at Hemlock Park.

• Officers were dispatched to Parkview housing for a suspicious situation.

• Police performed an area check near Spring and Clark streets for an older intoxicated woman walking in the roadway. The caller wanted the woman checked on. Police were unable to locate the woman.

• A traffic stop at East Pere Marquette and North State streets led to a 23-year-old woman receiving a citation for driving with a suspended or revoked license.

• During a traffic stop at South State and Woodward Avenue, officers determined a passenger, who was on probation in Isabella County, had been drinking, a violation of his probation. Officers made contact with the man’s probation agent and it was determined the man would not be arrested.

• Police responded to a civil complaint on the 800 block of Water Tower Road.
