Osceola County commissioners approve funds for waste disposal program

OSCEOLA COUNTY — County officials hope to remove any potential health risks from the community and keep residents safe.

During the Osceola County Board of Commissioners Committee of the Whole meeting on Tuesday, commissioners approved the Mecosta and Osceola-Lake Conservation Districts Services Agreement for the hazardous waste collection and disposal program for $2,500.

On Saturday, Oct. 13, the conservation districts will host their 16th area-wide collection of household toxic and hazardous waste. Funding provided by the county will go toward the costs of the safe disposal and recycling of the waste materials.

Materials that can be collected include paint products, antifreeze, gasoline, kerosene, insect repellents, chemical fertilizers and cleaning solvents, among others.

During the meeting, commissioners also approved:

• Claims of the county for approximately $50,412;

• The Area Agency on Aging of Western Michigan Fiscal Year 2019 Older Americans Act Contract amendment and Business Associate agreement;

• A bid from Fenstermacher Asphalt Paving for $2,500 to complete parking lot repairs at the Osceola County Commission on Aging in Evart;

• A third-party administrator contract with Hager Consulting LLC to provide services for the Osceola County Housing Emergency Repair Program;

• The Brownfield contract for services with Soil and Materials Engineers, Inc. to evaluate four key sites within the county as part of the Brownfield Redevelopment Authority;

• The State of Michigan Prosecutor Victim Rights Grant; and

• Tentative changes with the Government Employees Labor Council union for the 2019-20 collective bargaining agreement.
