POLICE BLOTTER: Woman kicks officer; someone slashes motorcycle tires

BIG RAPIDS — Big Rapids Department of Public Safety officers responded to the following calls on Wednesday. All calls might not be reported.

• Officers performed morning school details.

• Officers responded to a complaint of a violation of the Controlled Substances Act and mental health issue on the 200 block of West Bridge Street. A man called about a woman who was at his house, stating she was talking about committing suicide. When officers arrived on scene, the woman attempted to run away. She was detained and became upset because officers would not let her smoke a cigarette or drink any coffee. After threatening officers, she was placed in handcuffs. While attempting to get her into the cuffs, the woman kicked an officer twice. The man gave officers her items, including a small pill container with multiple miscellaneous pills and no prescription bottle. The woman was taken to Spectrum Health Big Rapids Hospital for a mental health evaluation. Charges will be sent for review for assault and violation of the Controlled Substances Act.

• Police performed an area check for a possible crash at State Street and Perry Avenue. They were unable to locate any crash, as there were no callers on scene and it had been reported by a witness passing by.

• Officers responded to a suspicious situation on the 300 block of Morrison Avenue. The caller told officers she had sent a package to her son and it did not arrive. The package apparently went to the wrong apartment.

• Police were dispatched to a crash on the 400 block of North Third Avenue.

• A man came to DPS to report a restaurant wasn’t paying him for his work. He worked approximately 40 hours while still not yet “employed” on paper and wants the hours he worked paid.

• Officers performed a well-being check on a woman who was suicidal. She decided to receive care.

• A motorcyclist reported having his tires slashed in a parking lot on the 200 block of Baldwin Street. The incident remains under investigation.

• Police performed an area check on the 1100 block of Fuller Avenue for a man laying in the grass by the sign. The man was gone when police arrived.
