TWIN LAKE — The Big Rapids girls golf team is state tournament-bound once again.

The Cardinals placed second in their Division 3 regional held at Stonegate Golf Club in Twin Lake on Thursday with a score of 365. Spring Lake won the tournament with a score of 356.

Hope Thebo shot an 83 to finish second overall and Lauren Posey a 91 for a sixth-place finish. Holly McKenna was 10th overall with a 95 and Avery Chaput and Payton Fuller each scored a 96 to tie for 11th.

“We came in thinking we had a pretty good chance to win,” head coach Mark Posey said. “Spring Lake is a good program. I thought the girls played well today. It was cold and windy, which made things tough. For us to shoot a 365 in these conditions, we’ll take it. Our goal was to make the state finals and we did.”

Division 3 golf finals take place October 19-20 at Michigan State’s Forest Akers East Golf Course in East Lansing, Michigan.
