MARNE — Bill Pease, of Big Rapids, was recently named Rookie of the Year by Berlin Raceway in the four-cylinder division at the organization’s annual awards banquet last month. Pease finished fourth in his division overall on the season.

Pease, 60, said he decided to start racing last year after a death in the family compelled him to begin living out his dreams.

“I’m a huge race fan. I found out I’m a better race fan than I am a driver, after wrecking the car a few times,” Pease said with a laugh. “Seriously, I’m very proud. I set out to be Rookie of the Year and finish top-10 in points, so I did better than I aimed for.”

Pease thanked his sponsors, Johnson’s Automotive Repair, Napa Auto Parts, Wise Photography, Peaceful Waterfalls and Boreview by My View.

Pease said he intends to race next year as well.
