BIG RAPIDS — The cases against a Comstock Park man recently charged for allegedly stealing electronics from two retailers in Big Rapids Township are moving forward.

BEENEY

The two cases against Thomas James Beeney III, charged with two counts of first-degree retail fraud, were bound over Tuesday to Mecosta County’s 49th Circuit Court, according to court records. A hearing for Beeney has been scheduled.

Deputies from the Mecosta County Sheriff’s Office identified and arrested Beeney through an investigation into a pair of retail thefts from Walmart and Lowe’s, where several thousands of dollars of merchandise was allegedly stolen.

First-degree retail fraud is a felony punishable by up to five years in prison and a potential fine of either $10,000 or three times the value of the stolen property, whichever is greater.

Beeney currently is lodged in the Mecosta County Jail on $150,000 bond.
