Big Rapids Township appoints new trustee

BIG RAPIDS TWP. — A new face has been welcomed to the Big Rapids Township Board of Trustees.

During the board’s meeting Tuesday evening, Chris Merendino was appointed to fill the open seat left after former trustee Travis Williams resigned at the beginning of October due to working out of town.

Merendino was chosen by the board after being interviewed with several other potential candidates.

Also during the meeting, commissioners approved:

• A resolution opposing Senate Bill 396, which would amend Michigan Vehicle Code to allow logging equipment to operate on the shoulder of a highway, among other changes, if passed;

• A bid from New Horizon Landscaping to clean up the Woodward property; and

• Adding special assessments and past due water bills to winter tax bills.
