Osceola County commissioners approve inspection for Big Lake Dam

OSCEOLA COUNTY — County commissioners are taking steps toward ensuring the safety of the Big Lake Dam.

During the Osceola County Board of Commissioners Committee of the Whole meeting on Tuesday, commissioners approved a triennial safety inspection for the Big Lake Dam.

A bid from J.E. Tiffany & Sons for $1,195 was selected by the board to perform the inspections, and County Surveyor Bill Sikkema was approved to set the required benchmark for $200. The total cost for the project will be $1,395.

Also during the meeting, commissioners approved:

• Claims to the county for approximately $79,268;

• An entrance addition for the main courthouse with an allocated budget up to $10,000 for the project;

• Budget amendments as presented;

• A Consent for Access to Property Agreement to allow for a property study at 214 N. Chestnut St. in Reed City in relation to the Brownfield Redevelopment Grant contract;

• Allowing Jerry Lindquist to purchase two computers he used while working in the county; and

• An independent investigation into department operations of the Osceola County Commission on Aging.
