Bucks’ outside hitter Emma Whitley reflects on strong volleyball season

LEROY — Pine River’s volleyball team recently ended a strong season with sophomore Emma Whitley playing no small role in this success.

The Bucks only had two seniors and most of the statistical leaders were underclassmen.

Whitley was one of three sophomores on the team.

“We had some highs and we had some lows,” Whitley said.

When the Bucks had their highs “our offense and defense was working together,” she said.

Whitley was also on the varsity as a freshman last season.

“I improved a lot,” she said. “This year, our team is close. We made a ton of progress.”

Whitley was an outside hitter for the Bucks, who were around the .500 mark under veteran coach Jana Dennis

Whitley, who also plays softball, was hopeful the Bucks would have success in the districts but they faltered in the first round. But with almost everyone returning in 2019, she has plenty of high hopes.
