LAKEVIEW — The Southern Mecosta Whitetail Management Association is having its annual buck pole at noon on Friday at the Hinton Township Hall.

SMWMA Co-Op president Harold Wolf said participants need not bring in a deer to watch the event, which includes a free lunch.

The hall is at the corner of 90th Avenue and Three Mile Road at Hinton Township, which is where the event has been located since its inception. The public is invited.

“Our co-op consists of Hinton Township, Morton Township, Deerfield Township and Austin Township,” Wolf said. “We have prizes given away from a random drawing from anyone who brings in a deer to hang onto the pole. They will have a chance to win the muzzleloader. Anybody who brings antlers in from a deer they shot with a bow will get a raffle ticket and an opportunity to win a deer blind heater.

“Anybody that comes to look and watch, we give them a ticket as well. They have an opportunity to win a prize too.”

This is the 10th year of the buck pole at Hinton Township.

“It’s gone very well,” Wolf said. “It’s very well received. We typically have anywhere from 75 to 150 people come. Every successful hunter that comes, we give them a one-year QDM (Quality Deer Management) membership.”
