BIG RAPIDS — After the first large snow of the season transformed Big Rapids into a winter wonderland this week, people had Christmas on their minds as they stopped by the annual Holiday Farmers Market on Friday.

“I feel like people are getting in the holiday spirit with all the snow,” said Kelsey Van Pernis as she shopped for popcorn at the market with her sons, Zeke and Dedan.

Van Pernis and others who visited the market had the opportunity to shop for holiday decorations, Christmas trees, caramel and flavored popcorn, fall vegetables, jewelry and more.

Although vendors said the cold weather may have resulted in a smaller crowd on Friday than in previous years, they agreed the day was a success overall.

Mary Roush, a vendor selling a variety of holiday decorations, said she has attended every Holiday Farmers Market and always enjoys them.

“It’s going very well,” she said. “The people are fantastic up here.”

Connie Grant, with Grant’s Family Farm, also had a successful day selling Christmas trees and other items to shoppers at the market.

“It brings people out and gets them in the holiday spirit,” she said.

Grant’s Family Farm sold a variety of holiday items, such as Christmas trees, wreaths and fall vegetables, to customers on Friday.
