EVART — Seven Evart players were on two Mount Pleasant American Legion Post 110 baseball teams that came to Big Rapids over the weekend and won their age divisions in the Quad City tournament.

The 18U team beat the Quad City Storm 6-4 in the title game on Sunday at Win Kellum Field.

Justin O’Dell, Ty Sochocki and Donavin Reagan were the Evart players on the 18U team.

Nate Sochocki, Danny Witbeck, Reese Ransom and Pierce Johnson were on the 16U team. The Mount Pleasant Post 110 16u also won, scoring runs in the top of the seventh inning to break a 8-8 deadlock, winning 12-8, over an opponent nicknamed the Dirtysports team.

Coach Keith MacDonald’s 18U Mount Pleasant team was 3-1-1 for the weekend. Its only loss was 11-10 to Quad City in an earlier round game.

“We’re evenly matched with Quad City,” MacDonald said. “They were in our tournament back in mid-June. We came back, got ahead of them (on Sunday) and were able to hang on.”

MacDonald said the three Evart players were new to his team.

“Ty Sochocki is a great versatile player and a nice shortstop,” MacDonald said. “He’s got great footwork and makes all the plays. The other two are a couple of big boys. O’Dell has had some injury issues. He hasn’t been able to play for three weeks. He came back last week and threw for us against Gladwin. He would have closed for us tonight (against Quad City) if we needed him.

“Donavin Reagan has been versatile for us. He’s a first baseman and we moved him to play some third base because I’ve got a couple of left-handed first basemen. In the last two weeks, Donavin has started to hit the ball.”

Post 110 now enters American Legion district play this week.

“The Evart guys have been a nice addition to our team,” MacDonald said.
