Griffes set for senior season

MORLEY — Morley Stanwood’s football team, like others, will officially open practices on Monday.

But players like Logan Griffes have had a long summer and are ready to go.

Griffes, a right offensive tackle and defensive tackle, is ready to play the same spot again this season.

“We’ve been working out,” he said during the recent Morley Stanwood summer camp. “We have weight-lifting and conditioning and quite a few of us lift almost every day. I’ve been working out in Big Rapids (at a fitness business) and they have me on a program I’ve been following and that helped me a lot.”

It’s Griffes’ senior season.

Summer activities, including the camp in late-July “is a ton helpful because we have extra days of patience to get the offense in,” he said. “We do footwork and go as hard as we can. That extra conditioning helps.”

Practices start on Monday. The season kicks off at Central Montcalm on Aug. 29.

Griffes was also on the Mohawk track team in the spring.
