Cardinal senior anxious to have strong football season

Cole McKenna

BIG RAPIDS – The Big Rapids football team has a small senior class, but among the returning players eyeing a banner season is Cole McKenna.

The Cardinal senior will be in his second varsity season.

Last season for the Cardinals, he played tight end, cornerback and safety in a reserve role. He had one interception.

On offense, “with my height and strength, and I have good hands,” he said. “I have the ability to juke people out.”

McKenna has considered himself a strong blocker on offense.

In the defensive backfield, his height and ability to read the quarterback should be his strengths, McKenna indicated.

“I can read where he is most likely to throw so I can read and get those interceptions,” McKenna said.

A strong summer football program has helped him retain his shape, McKenna said.

“The benefits of summer ball is learning the plays and getting to know each other better and work more as a team,” he said. “We’re low in numbers so none of us likely will come out of games. We need to be really conditioned.”
