MORLEY — Practices started on Monday and area football teams including Morley Stanwood, with veteran coach Clark Huntey, were getting their teams ready for another season.

Huntey said after his first practice the Mohawks would probably have low20s on the varsity.

“It’s down a little bit for us from normal, not the worst we’ve been,” he said. “We’ll probably have quite a lot of two-way players, which we’ve always had even when we’ve had a lot of guys. We try to move rotations on defense.

“We have seven days to get ready for our scrimmage.”

The scrimmage will be on Aug. 22 at Shepherd.

“The focus is on everyone knowing their assignments,” Huntey said, “just so there aren’t any mistakes being made and we don’t get kids hurt. We want to be in the best shape possible.”

The season kicks off at Central Montcalm on Aug. 29

“I think we’re looking very good,” lineman Jack Doyle said. “We’re looking to be a force to be reckoned with and we’re looking for a conference championship this year,”

“We’ve got good fundamentals and we practice hard,” Tucker Cook, a running back and cornerback, said.
