Greenbay set to have huge junior football season

BIG RAPIDS — DJ Greenbay enters his third varsity football season for Big Rapids and is anxious to help the Cardinals have a productive year.

Greenbay will be on the line both ways as an offensive guard and defensive nose guard.

“I’m pretty quick off my feet,” he said.

Defensively, Greenbay is confident in his tackling and being able to wrap up ball carriers.

“My pass rush is all right,” he said. “You need quick hands and keep your feet moving.”

Greenbay went to camps during the summer and kept busy.

“I felt that really helped me out,” he said. “It’s helped on my knowledge of the game and knowing what to do.”

The Cardinals are coming off a 5-5 playoff season and have a scrimmage at Comstock Park on Aug. 22. The first game is home against Shepherd on Aug.29.

Players like Greenbay will probably go both ways. Varsity numbers are in the low 20s.

“We’ll be young,” he said. “We’re going to be real fast.”

“DJ started for us as a freshman and is a leader of a our line,” Coach Mike Selzer said. “He has a great drive and a great motor. We’re excited to see what he has the next two years.”
