Strpko, Cardinals ready to go

BIG RAPIDS — Kelby Strpko is among the key seniors Big Rapids’ volleyball team will be looking at to make key contributions this season.

The Cardinals start their season today at the Alma Invitational. It’s Strpko’s second varsity season.

“Things went really good,” she said. “We had a good competitive team. It was good chemistry all together.”

Strpko was at the right-back position.

“I adjusted to varsity pretty good,” she said. Her role will be the same.

Strpko has also been a good server.

“I’m out there to hit it hard and keep it low,” she said.

Strpko played a lot of beach volleyball and softball during the summer.

“The team is looking good,” she said. “We have really good chemistry and we have really good chemistry and we’re really competitive. We click right away.”

Coach Chelsea Nelson expects to see good competition at Alma.

“Lakewood is there, they’re always good,” Nelson said. “I have a good group.”

The Cardinals have 11 girls for varsity, 12 for JV and 10 for freshmen.

“We have 18 actual for freshmen,” Nelson said. “That’s a big class.”
