Ferris keeper receives honors

BIG RAPIDS — After a strong weekend performance to open the year, Ferris State University senior goalkeeper Alison Chesterfield (South Elgin, Ill.) has been chosen as this week’s Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women’s soccer Defensive Player of the Week.

Chesterfield did not allow a goal on the weekend in 200 minutes of work as the Bulldogs went unbeaten in regional action. She earned a win on Sunday with a single save in FSU’s 1-0 triumph over Quincy, which followed a double-overtime scoreless deadlock against GLVC favorite Truman State in season-opening competition on Friday at the Bulldog Soccer Field.

For the weekend, she totaled five saves with a 0.00 goals against average and 1.000 save figure on the two shutouts.

With her two shutouts this past weekend, Chesterfield moved into the top five all-time in program history in career shutouts, passing Carla Gilbertson (2006).

Ferris State next heads west to North Dakota where the Bulldogs will take on Minot State on Friday in nonconference action.
