Emily Libey is league long jump champion

REMUS — The Chippewa Hills girls were first with 226.5 points, finishing ahead of Big Rapids with 100 in the Central State Activities Association Gold Division track and field meet on May 8 at Chippewa Hills. Reed City was sixth with 47.
The boys had 165, placing ahead of Grant with 104.5 and Big Rapids with 93.50. Reed City was eighth with 19.
Emily Libey won the long jump for Reed City (15-7 1/2) and was on the 400-meter relay team that took second. She was third in the 100 (13.93) and third in the 800 relay (2:00.09).
“We were excited for Emily winning the long jump,” Reed City coach Brent Michell said. “I don’t think anybody anticipated that. She started jumping a few weeks ago and had only been at three meets. We like her potential at the regional meet.”
Reed City competes at the Division 3 regionals Friday at Mason County Central.
Michell said a JV meet was scheduled for this past Monday at Newaygo and would give his team, dominated with freshmen and sophomores, a chance to see how it competes against athletes from similar grades.
Reed City also competed in a dual at Chippewa Hills on May 10. Libey placed first in the long jump (15-5) for Reed City.
Isiah Yonkin took fourth in the shot put with a throw of 38-1 and was fourth in the discus at 105-5.
