Kiainis having huge season for Reed City

REED CITY — It hasn’t taken Abbigail Kiaunis, of Reed City, long to show how talented she can be on the cross country course.

The Coyote freshman has been among her team’s top runners this season but has been near or at the top of the standings in most of the girls races.

She was second at the Cecil Burch Pine River Invitational on Sept. 30.

Kiaunis showed her stuff with an impressive performance at Chippewa Hills in early September. She continues to have success. Her best time has been 20:50. It’s been warm most of the season but Kiaunis indicated she prefers it that way.

There’s several weeks to go for the season and Kiaunis is hoping to get lower down the 20-minute range.

“It will take a lot more work,” she said. “My start is really good. The middle, I’m not so good at. I just need to run more.”

Reed City has a full team this season and has done well at various meets, including at the McBain Invitational.

The Coyotes are at Manistee on Oct. 12 for an invitational and close the Central State Activities Association Gold Division season at White Cloud on Oct. 17. The Chippewa Hills High School Invitational on Oct. 21 and Central Montcalm Invitational on Oct. 23 will lead into regionals on Oct. 28.
