REED CITY — The Reed City defense has been making the key plays all season and among the key contributors has been junior linebacker Anthony Pelton.

The Coyotes are 11-1 and winners of 11 straight games, with the most recent win being a 46-34 victory over Menominee for the regional championship.

Pelton has been starting at both tight end and defensive tackle.

His strength at tight end has been his coaching ability and my ability to show the run and my blocking ability.

After eight weeks, Pelton had caught five passes.

“I feel I can run a complete route,” he said. “I can catch every ball thrown to me. I can stay on my block and sustain it a long time.”

His strength as a linebacker has been “my ability to get my hands up on the pass and to chase down quarterbacks on the scramble,” he said.

Pelton thought his team’s best played game during the regular season was against Chippewa Hills, which helped the Coyotes win their seventh straight Central State Activities Association title.

But the Coyotes have won district and regional titles and are still playing. They face Saginaw Swan Valley at 1 p.m. on Saturday at Greenville in the state semifinals.

“We are very confident,” Pelton said. “I feel this is our best shot to make it all the way.”
