Martin set to spark Evart

EVART — Cam Martin is in his senior season for Evart’s varsity basketball team, but said his senior year didn’t quite go “as planned.”

Teamwise, the Wildcats didn’t win as many games as they would have preferred. His transition went OK, Martin indicated.

“I came off the bench and ran offense,” he said. “I’ll be starting and running the offense.”

Both roles are mainly the same, he added.

As a player, “I’m a good shooter and dribbler,” Martin said. “I give the ball to my teammates.”

Martin is confident he can be a good shooter for the Wildcats, including with 3-point attempts.

“You have to get shots up in practice.”

The Wildcats are entering their third week of practice.

“I think we’re going to be good this year,” Martin said.

Evart graduated key players from last season such as Danny Griffin, now at Olivet. But Martin is confident enough talent is returning to make the Wildcats a dangerous squad this season.

“I think we’ll play good team defense and work the ball to our center Nick (Sylvester),” Martin said.
