REED CITY – It’s a new girls basketball season which starts on Tuesday, and it has special meaning for many players, including Reed City senior Alyssa Oldd.

The Coyotes opened at Pine River on Tuesday and then are off until Dec. 5 when they are at Cadillac.

The first home game is Dec. 8 with Central State Activities Gold Division rival White Cloud.

Olds is among the Coyote seniors hoping to have an extremely competitive team this season. It is Olds’ fourth varsity season.

In her junior year, Olds tore her anterior ligament cruciate late in the season the Friday before districts.

She indicated she had to have more work on her injury a few weeks ago but figured on being 100 percent prior to the season.

“We don’t start off as hot as we should,” Olds said, looking back at the 2016 season. “We psych ourselves every time we start playing and don’t think.”

Olds expects the same role as last season.

“But I’ll shoot a lot more this year,” she said. “Mid-range shots are probably my favorite. You can’t be afraid, but just shoot.”

On defense, “normally a few of us play the best offensive player. A few of us play pretty well at that.”

Olds indicated the team will do plenty of pressing.

“We hope to shut them down right away,” she said.
